What's your car telling you?
Pick what you're noticing. See what it usually means, how urgent it is, and what it typically costs.
Squeal or grind when braking
A high squeal is usually the built-in wear indicator. Grinding means metal-on-metal — book right away.
Usual causes
- Worn brake pads
- Scored or warped rotors
- Sticking caliper
Typical cost
$189–$549 per axle
Check engine light is on
A steady light is rarely an emergency, but it shouldn't be ignored. A flashing light usually means a misfire that can damage your catalytic converter.
Usual causes
- Loose gas cap or EVAP leak
- Worn spark plugs or ignition coil
- Oxygen sensor
Typical cost
$99–$149 diagnosis, applied to the repair
Engine running hot
Driving while overheating can warp the cylinder head. Pull over, shut it off, and give us a call. We can help arrange a tow.
Usual causes
- Coolant leak
- Stuck thermostat
- Failing water pump or radiator fan
Typical cost
$119–$950
Clicks or won't start
Most no-starts are a weak battery, especially in cold weather. If a jump start doesn't work, it may be the starter.
Usual causes
- Weak or dead battery
- Corroded battery terminals
- Failing starter or alternator
Typical cost
Free test · $169–$799 repair
Pulls to one side or shakes
Usually alignment or tire related. Fixing it early saves your tires from wearing out unevenly.
Usual causes
- Wheel alignment
- Low or uneven tire pressure
- Out-of-balance tire
Typical cost
$25–$149
AC blowing warm
Almost always a refrigerant leak. We find the leak first, so the cold air actually lasts.
Usual causes
- Refrigerant leak
- Compressor clutch
- Blend door actuator
Typical cost
$129–$249 for most fixes
Clunks over bumps
Worn suspension parts affect steering and braking. Most are quick, affordable fixes when caught early.
Usual causes
- Sway bar links
- Worn shocks or struts
- Ball joints or tie rods
Typical cost
$149–$1,050
Puddle under the car
The color tells you a lot. Clear water under the passenger side after using the AC is normal.
Usual causes
- Brown/black: engine oil
- Red/pink: transmission or power steering
- Green/orange: coolant (sweet smell)
Typical cost
Leak inspection $49–$99
General guidance, not a diagnosis. We confirm the cause before recommending any repair.
